Montessori Academy's vision is that each student
will become an independent, confident, motivated learner, and a responsible community member as a result of the dynamic partnership between
students, parents, and teachers.
This partnership within the exceptional Montessori environment, while developing these characteristics, enables each student to become a life-long learner.
Room Twelve has been a busy place. The children really enjoyed making terrariums as part of their study of the water cycle. It is always very satisfying to hear discussions amongst children that include the use of vocabulary words like evaporation and condensation. Mrs. Wildman also just concluded an in depth study of land and water forms as well.
Our other big news is that we have a brand new set of Grammar Boxes in Room 12. The Grammar Boxes are a beautiful piece of material that teach the parts of speech. I have already started giving lessons on this work. We want to thank Ruth Smith and Pamela Perks for helping get them set up in the classroom.
Currently we are studying the fundamental needs of humans. Students are not only discussing what all humans need to survive, but are studying what those needs were amongst different civilizations. I am reading "Farmer Boy" by Laura Ingalls Wilder aloud to the class to give them an idea of what life was like 150 years ago. We will also be preserving fruit by drying it. I am asking children to bring fruit in early next week and we will begin this process. Any fresh fruit is acceptable, except bananas. Apples, pineapple, cantaloupe and pears are great, but don't be afraid to think outside of the box, we will try anything! We will wash and prepare the fruit at school. Thank you in advance for helping with this!
Also, if you haven't had a chance to see our classroom garden it is worth a walk around the back of the building. Between Green Thumb Club and our students, we have a lovely fall garden growing. Peas, cabbage and broccoli are some of the showy plants. We also planted some lovely mums that were donated by the Duke's family. I am in the process of converting our garden space into raised beds. If you need fresh Rosemary please don't hesitate to come and help yourself!
October has been packed with events. Thank you for your contributions of food and time to make these times special. It is always great to see you and your families.
Thank you for attending the Open House this morning! We look forward to seeing you at Granny White Park this evening from 5:30-7:30 pm for the All School Picnic. After School Care will close at 4:30 pm today.
