September Newsletter

Dear Parents,

The school year is off to a great start!  The students came into the classroom ready to work and they have been doing just that since the first day of school!  They have been reviewing work in all subject areas and have also begun to work on new and exciting concepts.

This first six weeks, we have been concentrating on getting to know each other and the students have been working very well together.  “Respect” (for others, ourselves and the environment) has been emphasized and discussed throughout the day.  The students have been discussing ways to be respectful and have been looking for examples of respectful behavior.  I assure you, respectful behavior abounds in Room 10!

In Math, all levels have been reviewing math facts.  First and Second level students have been working in the math towers, solving problems on the story cards, and receiving new presentations.  Third levels have reviewed addition and subtraction with exchange and have been working on the Checkerboard.

We have also begun a study of “The History of Language” and the students are copying the different forms of written communication in their Language Journals.  We are presently learning about cuneiform.  They continue to work in the Language Towers, Grammar Boxes, SRAs and Skills Series.  They have been enjoying journaling and story writing and we have begun reading “The Indian in the Cupboard”.  They seem to be enjoying that also.

Biographies (Second Levels) and Ancestry Reports (Third Levels) will be due the first week in October. The schedule and an information letter will be available at the P.I.M. this Thursday, September 13.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, please look for the letter and schedule in Friday folders.

Scholastic book orders will be available on their website this year.  The first order form will come home in Friday folders and the website and instructions will be attached.  If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Quinn in Room.

As always, thank you for the privilege of working with your children.

Warm regards,
Marynet King
