October 2012

Dear Room 11 Families,

Time is sure flying by!  It’s hard to believe that we are already starting the third week of the second grading period.  Although we have only been together as a group for two months, our class is running like a well-oiled machine.  We invite you to see for yourself when you come to visit this Friday, October 19th, at our Open House from 7:30am-9:00am.

Thank you for taking the time to meet with us to discuss your child’s progress.  We learned so much more about your child and your insight has already proven instrumental in helping us guide your children.  If need be, we can always schedule another meeting between now and our next formal conference in February.  We are thrilled to be working with each and every one of your children – they are an exceptional group!

Great discussions have taken place during our weekly class meetings.  Issues are brought up and a variety of solutions are proposed and discussed by the children.  As a class, we are working towards taking better care of our class materials and practicing our grace and courtesies.

For homework, your child should practice reading daily and fill out the reading log.  Most children have also been asked to practice their math facts.  The weekly spelling or Wordly Wise (Third Levels only) homework should not overwhelm your child or take more than an hour to two hours to complete.  Please do let us know if this is not the case for your child.  You may find the suggestions in “5 Steps to Homework Success” from Parents Magazine helpful.

The research project presentations started today.  Except for a few exceptions, we have one presentation scheduled each day.  You are welcome to join us in the classroom for your child’s presentation at 10:30am.

The Scholastic book orders are due on Monday, October 22nd.  Orders may be placed on line or on the order forms that were sent home on Friday.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Quinn in Room 12.

Please remind your child to wear full dress uniform for our class photo on Wednesday, October 17th.

Many thanks to our parents who have contributed to our class from listening to the children read and practice math facts to presenting an exciting science experiment to donating additional classroom supplies, such as bottled water.  A special thank you to Laura LaPrad, our Room Coordinator, for assisting us whenever she’s asked.  We appreciate all your support and enjoy the privilege of working with your children.  As always, please feel free to send us a note, e-mail, or call us if you have any questions.

Warm Regards,
Megan Chwirut
