our PASSION

Montessori Academy's vision is that each student
will become an independent, confident, motivated learner, and a responsible community member as a result of the dynamic partnership between
students, parents, and teachers.
This partnership within the exceptional Montessori environment, while developing these characteristics, enables each student to become a life-long learner.

January 2013

Dear Room 11 Families,

As we get back into the school routine after being away for the break, we look forward to this second half of the school year. At this time we inform the students that our expectations for them are higher as they prepare for the next grade level.

Third level students have been working with the concept of electricity. They have enjoyed exploring different materials to see whether they are good or poor conductors. First level students have make beautiful booklets on the parts of a mountain and created their own compass roses. Second level students are making maps illustrating major land and water forms of the world.

Montessori Academy will conduct an all-school spelling bee within the next few days. We congratulate Maya and Haris, winner and runner-up for the third level, as they move on to compete with the other grade levels.

Parents, have you wished that you could spend a day in our classroom as a Montessori student? Perhaps you would just like to see what material your child has been talking about. You will have a chance to become better acquainted with these materials during our Parent Information Meeting (PIM). It will be held Thursday, January 17, from 4:30 to 5:45. (Child care is free.) I hope you can join us!

The copy books are a record of your child’s daily work. Finishing a copy book and starting a new “volume” is a source of pride for students. What an accomplishment it is to complete an entire book of work. Likewise, you have gotten to witness for yourselves the progress your child has made in a few months or even a couple of years by viewing the portfolios. We hope you have enjoyed looking through your child’s portfolio at his or her well-chosen work.

We are enjoying a nice community of friends in Room 11. They exhibit not only friendliness, but helpfulness as they interact with each other. We nurture these qualities through our class meetings and our discussions of life skills that we house in our treasure boxes.

As I close I ask that you please keep in mind the following dates:

Friday, January 18 – Progress reports go home
Friday, February 8 – All about Upper El for 3rd level parents
Thursday, February 14 – Valentine card exchange
Monday, February 18 – Parent conferences held

Sincerely,
Mrs. Stewart
