October 2012

Dear Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are already half way through the month of October.  We have had a very busy month in Room 2 with a number of different projects going on and the Kindergarteners taking their first field trip to the covered wagon exhibit at the agricultural center.

This month, we concluded our study of the solar system with each child having the opportunity to make their very own paper-mache planet.  Everyone has been very excited to begin learning about the layers of the earth, different types of rocks, parts of the volcano, and learning to distinguish between magnetic and non-magnetic.  In geography, we have kicked off our study of Europe by learning the flags of Italy, Greece, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom.  The children have all been very eager to remind us that it is about time to put out some new ones to begin learning.

As we welcomed Fall, the children began a month long study of apples.  This study included learning the life cycle of an apple and the parts of the apple.  We also had an apple tasting day, made apple sauce, as well as apple juice.  It was a very exciting project that the children were sad to see end, however the sadness was short lived as we soon began our study of the pumpkin!

In addition to these many projects, the children have also been hard at work on their daily lessons in the classroom.  They have all continued to challenge themselves by asking for new, harder presentations.  There has also been a lot of excitement in Room 2 this month as we have welcomed three new students in our class.  Nicholas Giannakoulias, Jibran Khan, and Alexander May have all joined the Room 2 family this past month.  The children have all played a big role in helping them feel welcome and helping them to learn our classroom’s daily routines and procedures.

We would like to send out a big thank you to Kaitlyn Webb and her family for donating umbrellas to our class.  They have really come in handy on those rainy days this month.  We would also like to thank Sawyer Clark, Eryn Albert, and Eliza Mason along with their families for making classroom supply donations.  We have also really enjoyed the wonderful snacks that have been provided by the Clarks, Fraziers, Kudithipudis, Whitefields, and Masons.   We have really appreciated the wonderful variety that you all have provided for the children each week.

Sincerely,
Ms. Woodard and Mrs. Gaither
