Dear Parents,

We know all the children are looking forward to our Thanksgiving feast coming up on Wednesday, as well as, having a week off for Thanksgiving Break.  The children have all been working so hard and have really earned some time off to relax and play at home.

It has been another busy month in Room 2.  This month, the children spent a time exploring the life cycle and parts of a pumpkin through a variety of activities.  Everyone had an opportunity to guess the weight and diameter of our large classroom pumpkin before we cut into it to clean our all the seeds.  After cleaning out the pumpkins, we roasted some seeds for snack one day before using the rest to plant.  We are excited to announce that we already have many pumpkin sprouts growing in our classroom.

In addition to these fun science explorations, we have also continued our study in Earth sciences by looking at the layers of the earth, the parts of the volcano, and the differences between igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.  It is probably safe to say that the highlight of last week was when we “erupted” the volcano at group time!  We are now preparing to move into our study of the human body.

This month in geography we have completed our study of Europe with many of our children learning to identify a number of the European flags.  Another favorite lesson in this study was using our block set to build the “Leaning Tower of Pizza” (a.k.a. the Leaning Tower of Pisa).  This was a tricky lesson to complete, which caused us to have many celebrations as each child completed the tower.  We are now looking forward to our next continent study as we move to North America for the month of November.

We would like to thank everyone for the generous gifts you all purchased for our class at the materials fair, as well as donations made to our AMS conference scholarship fund.  We have already put many of the items to good use, and are excited to announce that we will be sending one teacher from Room 2 to the conference this year!  We would also like to thank the Paul family and May family for their donations to our classroom funds, and the Clark family for donating an umbrella for our class.  We have also had some wonderfully nutritious snacks this month thanks to the Bauer, Maneval, Thompson, and Webb families.  We have had some amazing snacks so far this year, and we truly appreciate all the effort you all have put into providing snack for our class.  It has been a busy month for us all, and we are all looking forward to a well earned break for Thanksgiving!
